BIVACCO BREDYBivacco Bredy is the winning proposal from an invited competition organized by YACademy and Cantieri d’Alta Quota on behalf of the Brédy family. Developed by BCW Collective, the design is a specific solution for a high altitude site in the Italian region of Valle d’Aosta, near the Laghi di Dzioule, two small alpine lakes at 2500m elevation in the secluded Vertosan Valley.
The competition sought detailed designs of a bivouac to celebrate the memory of Claudio Brédy, a well-known politician and alpinist from Valle d’Aosta who tragically lost his life in a climbing accident at the end of 2017.
Inspiration from the life of Claudio Brèdy and the mountains he was so passionate about motivated the memorial architecture quality embedded in the proposal. The spirit of the man and the place are captured through symbolism. Minimalist design choices embrace the essentiality of the mountain context, while the cantilevered form, pushing into the void, evokes the absence of an important member of a family and a community at large.
The entire structure forms a telescope, opening towards grand views to the south. A large opening frames Gran Paradiso, one of the 4000m peaks the alpinist ascended during his career. This orientation doubles as an environmental design strategy as well, maximizing solar gain to warm the interior even in the cold months. Durable zinc cladding over insulated panel walls helps capture and retain heat.
With a welcoming interior space, clad in wood and organized for maximum functionality, the experiential qualities of the surroundings are brought to the forefront. Folding sleeping bunks, made from climbing cord, line either side of the shelter, which culminates in a spacious common area highlighted by the stunning view beyond. A vestibule adds protection from the elements and a space to store gear.

The strong yet simple form, inspired by its context and cantilevering into the void, will create a new iconic landmark for the Vertosan Valley.

BIVACCO BREDY
	Cane

Not every place needs a “big” project to become special.Sometimes, it just needs care — care that is visible, tactile, and deeply connected to the rhythms of everyday life.

In the mountain village of Canè, Italy, our approach was deliberately modest. Instead of redesigning the whole square or reshaping the landscape, we added two simple gestures:
- A reclaimed timber frame in the church square, perfectly aligned with the Adamello peaks, engraved with moments from the village’s intertwined history of mountain labour and alpinism.
- A marble block in a grotto, flanked by blue-painted wooden benches, holding a weatherproof “alpinist’s book” where residents and visitors can record thoughts, much like signing a summit register.

Both are built from local materials — timber from the steep surrounding forests, marble from the village’s former quarry — chosen for their authenticity, their durability, and their ability to age beautifully. These are not luxury installations; they are everyday objects elevated through intention.

Because small, inexpensive interventions can completely change how a space is experienced.A bench becomes more than a seat — it becomes an invitation.A framed view becomes a place of memory.A marked path becomes a story you walk through.

When design is thoughtful, scale becomes irrelevant. What matters is the signal it sends: this place is valued. And when a place is valued, people engage with it differently — they linger, they share, they take ownership. Care is contagious.

At BCW Collective, we see design as an amplifier. You don’t need to spend millions or chase spectacle to make a place meaningful. You just need to spot the moments in daily life where a touch of craft, a trace of colour, and a piece of local heritage can transform the ordinary into something unforgettable.

Small is not a compromise.Small is powerful. And in the right hands, small can be monumental.

OSLO apartement

This Oslo apartment renovation completed in 2024 embodies a quiet dialogue between material authenticity, spatial clarity, and the intimate rituals of everyday life. The existing plan was reimagined to create fluid connections between rooms, where natural light and tactile materials guide the experience of moving through the home. Each gesture in the design reflects a belief that architecture should be both timeless and profoundly livable—a space that welcomes life in all its imperfect beauty.

The floors are composed of Norwegian pine, sourced from Å Sag, a small, sustainable sawmill nestled in the forests of Telemark. This choice honors a local, circular approach to materiality, where the origin of each element is known and celebrated. Treated with a traditional Danish soap finish, the wood retains its open pores and natural fragrance, allowing it to breathe and develop a soft patina over time. This tactile, living surface encourages a sensory connection to the Nordic landscape and reflects an architectural philosophy that values evolution over static perfection.

At the threshold, the entrance is clad in large-piece Italian terrazzo, selected not only for its durability but for its evocative texture. Its composition recalls the granite that naturally cohabits with Nordic pine, anchoring the home to a broader geological narrative. Underfloor heating discreetly enhances the sensory experience, creating a warm and stable environment that encourages a ritual of arrival: shoes are left behind, the body slows down, and the home begins to embrace its inhabitants.

Furnishings are curated with a deliberate restraint, weaving together Scandinavian design pieces, Bauhaus references, and rustic elements. This composition creates a home that feels light, serene, and generous, yet robust enough to accept the realities of daily life—dogs running, the marks of use, and the small imperfections that make a space truly human.

The project reflects a design ethos rooted in sustainable elegance and lived minimalism: spaces that are visually quiet yet resilient, crafted from honest materials, and capable of aging with dignity. It is an architecture that does not dictate life, but frames it—an understated canvas where nature, craft, and human presence coexist in harmony.

FREYA – Floating Sauna

Freya, conceived and designed by Facundo Arboit—Partner at BCW Collective—emerges from a desire to reimagine the traditional sauna ritual. Inspired by Nordic wellness and urban fluidity, Freya dissolves boundaries between interior and exterior, heat and cold, solitude and community. The design intention centers on full immersion—not just in the fjord, but in shared urban life and elemental connection.

Positioned by Aker Brygge within the Oslo Fjord Spa network by GreenBoats, Freya is more than a floating structure—it is part glass house, part ceremonial platform. Generous glazing embraces panoramic fjord views, while the topology and scale (accommodating up to 15 people) turn the sauna into a stage for performance-like “aufguss” rituals—where water and steam interplay, and the fjord becomes part of the experience.

Within Oslo’s rapidly evolving fjordside sauna culture—where traditional wood-fired rafts meet glass domes and artistic pavilions—Freya stakes its poetic claim. It stands among KOK Oslo’s electric sauna rafts, SALT’s dynamic temporary installations, and architecturally significant vessels by Oslo Badstuforening. Together, these contribute to a vibrant mosaic of Nordic wellness in the city.

Though technical details for Freya are rooted in BCW Collective’s studio work, the ethos is clear: a careful orchestration of transparency, safety, and connection. Innovations in glass and fireproofing allow sweeping visibility without compromising wellbeing—while the floating platform anchors an immersive, yet socially generous space.

BERLIN - BRANDENBURGOur vision for Berlin-Brandenburg 2070 is divided into strategies on four levels: XL, L, M and S. At each level we deal with the technological, ecological and social development of substances.development that defines the city and its context.

Our proposal goes beyond Brandenburg, it is global and overcoming the ecological crisis is the focus. Berlin in 2070 must be climate-neutral, self-sustaining, clean, green city. This is achieved through a combination of technological solutions and a return to the principles of nature.
The main strategies include developing circular economies, promoting urban agriculture to reduce dependence on imported goods, and preventin expansion of development with simultaneous densification of existing centers, the strengthening of the transport connections with high-speed railways and a water network as well as the promotion of the reforestation with simultaneous establishment of a closed wood production process for sustainable building. But the most important strategy for the future is the social one. Our vision of the Urban
Commons is addressed by zooming in.

The idea of the Urban Commons places people and the environment at the center of urban development in the coming decades and beyond. The challenge in the age of social decadence and automation is the fragmentation of the social fabric through massive layoffs and even the suppression of entire industries.
In order to avoid this catastrophe, it is important to start now with the different assessments of human resources. To create a new social model, we examine the old root of resilient communities: a collaboration between individuals, a co-ownership condition, and
a shared microeconomy driven by the conservation of common goods in the form of ecological resources.
Our proposal emphasizes the development of the city around the idea of the Urban Commons: an accessible, open, democratic platform that provides all the necessary resources for people to shape the city by themselves. Our goal is to promote and strengthen DIY culture and innovation, core features that make Berlin a world capital of creativity and multiculturalism. Our aim with this proposal was to promote democratic access to the city and it’s potentials using architecture as a equalizer and an engine for sociocultural development.

EX MACELLO

The former slaughterhouse in Lugano, Built at the end of the 19th century, is located on the right bank of the Cassarate river, in an area which origin was “outside” the city, but with the development of this, starting from the 40s of the 20th century, comes to being within the city fabric.
The area is located along the Cassarate river, which flows in the centre of the Lugano Valley.
The Cassarate river once represented the eastern limit of the city of Lugano, following the recent trial of aggregation with neighbouring municipalities (2004-2013), it now finds itself at the centre of the new “big” Lugano.A set of buildings organized in a symmetrical system and surrounded by a wall aligned orthogonally to the river forms a sort of “citadel” within the urban fabric. The complex is one of the few examples of industrial archaeology still present in Lugano and in particular the building central, with its large rooms, represents an element of considerable architectural and historical value.

The current state of these buildings is fair in terms of safety, while there are signs of deterioration in the plasters, due both to wear over time and to the different colours given over the years.

Our proposal is to restore the original colour of the walls (yellowish-orange) and of the dark ones (light gray colour for the administrative area).

The renovation project of the spaces involves a system of mezzanines in a wooden structure, which do not touch the existing structure, but deviate from it by about 10 cm.

This is to give even more the idea of the “old” welcoming the “new”. The mother structure thus becomes like a shell for all the activities that have been requested in the project.

Accommodation for students and tourists is provided inside a new building, which will rise on the area obtained from the demolition of the most degraded of the existing buildings

Material Logic and Construction Intelligence

Our architecture is defined by clarity, proportion, and material intelligence.

We prioritize natural and durable materials such as stone, timber, and mineral finishes. Simple, robust construction systems
details that age well and require minimal maintenance.

Every design decision is evaluated through how it is built, how it performs, and how it contributes to the long-term value of the property.Built to Perform
BCW Collective works with clients who expect more than aesthetics.
We deliver architecture that is:
buildable and cost-efficientaligned with market demanddurable and low-maintenancedesigned to increase long-term property value

The result is architecture that performs as both a space and an asset.

Generosity of Space
Generosity is not about size; it is about intention. We define generosity as clarity, proportion, and quality where it matters most.

Our projects are designed to offer:

well-proportioned spaces that feel open and coherent
careful use of light, material, and texture
a strong relationship between interior and surrounding landscape

By removing the unnecessary, we create architecture that feels calm, precise, and enduring, offering a higher quality of experience without increasing cost or complexity.

We design spaces that feel expansive, filled with light and air, and capable of adapting to the changing needs of their users. This approach creates environments that nurture well-being and foster a sense of community. Generous spaces enhance livability and flexibility, supporting diverse lifestyles.

Sustainability Through Precision, Longevity, and
Reversibility
BCW Collective approaches sustainability through durability, efficiency, and intelligent use of resources. Rather than relying on superficial solutions, we design buildings that are simple to construct, long-lasting, and adaptable over time.

A key component of our approach is reversibility. Wherever possible, interventions are designed so they can be modified, disassembled, or upgraded without compromising the original structure, extending the lifecycle of the building and reducing future waste.

We prioritize:

natural, low-impact materials such as timber and stone
construction systems that minimize waste and allow future adaptation
passive design strategies that improve energy performance
reversible details and assemblies that enable long-term flexibility

This ensures that architecture remains durable, adaptable, and economically efficient, reducing both environmental impact and lifecycle costs while preserving long-term asset value.

Architecture as a Tool for Value Creation

BCW Collective is a European architecture studio operating across Italy, Switzerland, and Norway, specializing in luxury residential, hospitality, and property transformation projects.

We design, renovate, and upgrade buildings with a clear objective: to increase property value, improve functionality, and deliver high-quality, buildable architecture. Our work sits at the intersection of architecture, construction, and real estate strategy, allowing us to align design decisions with financial performance and long-term asset quality.

Every project is approached as a targeted intervention, where architecture is used to unlock the full potential of a property.

We focus on:
maximizing spatial efficiency and usability

Timeless Design, Rooted in Context

Our work is informed by the cultural, environmental, and historical context of each project. We aim to create designs that honor their surroundings while offering a fresh perspective. Timelessness, for us, is about creating spaces that feel as relevant tomorrow as they do today. Context-driven design enhances local identity and adds enduring value.

Working Across Europe

We deliver projects across Italy, Switzerland, and Norway, adapting each intervention to its regulatory, cultural, and environmental context.

Our experience in these markets allows us to:

navigate local planning and construction frameworks
optimize projects for regional real estate dynamics
deliver architecture that is both contextual and competitive in the market

A Catalyst for Community

BCW Collective works with communities, private clients, developers, and investors on projects that require both design quality and strategic thinking.

Residential Architecture
We design villas, houses, and mountain properties that combine spatial clarity, material precision, and long-term durability. Each project is tailored to its context while ensuring efficient construction and high asset value.

Hospitality and Boutique Hotels
We develop hospitality concepts and boutique hotels that balance guest experience with operational efficiency, ensuring that design supports both brand identity and financial performance.

Renovation and Property Transformation
We specialize in renovating and upgrading existing properties, including heritage buildings and underperforming assets. Our work focuses on reconfiguring layouts, improving functionality, and aligning properties with current market expectations.
